General questions about Neurapix
The Neurapix AI learns an editing style based on previously edited sample images. It analyses the slider values set in Adobe Lightroom Classic in the context of the photo in order to understand the basic style and then apply it consistently in different lighting situations.
The more varied the situations in your dataset are, the better the quality of the editing results will be, as long as the sample material has been edited in a standardised style. A SmartPreset can therefore always be further refined in order to minimise any manual controller adjustments.
Situations that are not yet covered as training material in the personal SmartPreset are matched using the knowledge of a higher-level Neurapix AI that has been trained with many millions of photos. In this way, the individual look is calculated and applied for each specific situation.

The Neurapix AI analyzes numerous image settings in Lightroom. These include the areas of white balance, tonal value, presence, HSL and calibration with their various controls. In principle, all setting options are analysed for each training data set and applied individually during processing.
Yes, the Neurapix AI also analyses the camera model with its basic settings in order to achieve consistent results when editing images.
In a more detailed blog article, the three providers mentioned were compared in the categories ‘Software integration (plugin vs. standalone)’, ‘Creating your own SmartPresets or profiles’, ‘Processing location and speed’ and ‘Payment models and prices’.
Neurapix stands out as a comprehensive solution for professional photo editing, offering advantages in all compared categories. It integrates seamlessly as a plugin into Adobe Lightroom Classic and allows quick, free creation of unlimited personalized SmartPresets with just 20 images.
The provider from Germany offers a high editing speed of up to 1,000 images per minute. TThe editing location and pricing options can be adjusted flexibly to suit customer needs. This makes Neurapix a particularly attractive choice for photographers who value efficiency, adaptability, and data security.
No, Neurapix currently supports all common RAW file formats.
No, Neurapix currently only supports Adobe Lightroom Classic (desktop). In our view, it is not possible to develop a convenient integration in Lightroom CC for the needs of professional photographers, as the setting options are limited.
Yes, a Neurapix licence can be used on two computers. However, you can only actively edit on one computer at a time.
SmartPreset creation
Use the ‘Create SmartPreset’ option via the Lightroom menu (Library > Additional module options > SmartPreset erstellen) Create SmartPreset) with edited RAW images. For more information, please refer to our tutorial videos.
If you use the ‘Kickstart’ option for SmartPreset creation, you can train your own AI with just 20 training images. If you have enough images to hand, we recommend regular creation with at least 500 sample images in your style, as this can lead to even better results. Basically, the more data, the better for the AI – but only as long as the photos have been edited consistently.
Creating your own SmartPreset is simple and very quick. You have two options:
‘Kickstart’ – for getting started & one-offs
With just 20 edited images, you can create your own SmartPreset using the “Kickstart” function and start using it in just over ten minutes.
This option offers you an easy way to get started if you don’t have any/not enough edited images to hand or would like to try out a new style. For example, ‘Kickstart’ is suitable for one-off customer orders that are to be edited in a special look.
Simply import a RAW selection (more than 20 images) into Lightroom and click on ‘Kickstart’. Neurapix selects 20 representative images from this shoot, which you then edit as examples. On this basis, Neurapix creates your new SmartPreset and automatically edits the remaining images from the shoot in the newly learnt style.
Regular creation – for mature styles
Your SmartPresets will be even better with the regular creation of 500 already processed images. It can be used after just one to two hours – initially via the Neurapix servers. If you have a Neurapix flat rate, you can also have your SmartPreset working locally on your own computer after a good two days.
This option is useful for anyone who has already found their own editing style and has a finished shoot in RAW format.
The key to a good SmartPreset is a consistent style. This means the processing should be as uniform as possible across the entire dataset, i.e., across all included shoots. ‘Outliers’ in the editing style can confuse the AI and lead to undesirable results—similar to how a human editor would struggle when shown different sample templates.
You should also make sure that you only make minor changes to the calibration and gradation curves within a SmartPreset, as these settings can have a strong influence on the other slider values.
Basically, the more images you add to a SmartPreset in your consistent target style, the better it will be.
Neurapix uses pre-processed DNG files to generate SmartPresets. Pre-processed images are uploaded for server processing, enabling the AI to examine the largest possible dynamic range. In this way, the file size could be reduced to a few KB per image. As a result, only small amounts of data are uploaded or downloaded, even for large photo shoots.
For local processing, the AI uses heavily processed vectors (a few hundred numbers per image) from which images cannot be reconstructed.
In the classic creation of a color SmartPreset (at least 500 images), the B/W style is automatically additionally created, provided there are at least 20 edited B/W images included.
Those who wish to specifically create just a B/W SmartPreset can use the “Kickstart” option to create their own look in a few minutes.
Only 20 images need to be exemplarily edited.
As usual, photographers can create as many of their own B/W SmartPresets as they want, free of charge.
The creation time depends on various factors. These include, for example, the workload on the server (queue) and the number of uploaded images. Under normal circumstances, the creation of a SmartPreset initially takes between one and a half and three hours, but it can also be faster or slower.
The preparation of a SmartPreset for local processing (as part of the Neurapix flat rate) can take up to two days. In any case, you will receive an e-mail notification when the SmartPreset is ready for use.
Refinements are not incorporated into your SmartPreset in real time. Nevertheless, it is recreated (refined) at predefined intervals. The exact time depends on various factors, especially the number of newly uploaded photos. You can see how many corrected images you still have to upload for the next refinement in your user account. Once the critical threshold has been reached, the SmartPreset automatically joins the current queue on the Neurapix servers. The update process of the SmartPreset itself then takes one to two days.
No, but you can create your own SmartPreset based on a purchased SmartPreset with just a few clicks, which you can then further customise and refine.
In this case, we recommend creating a new SmartPreset for your new style. If the AI receives different styles on the basis of which it is supposed to learn your editing style, it can no longer deliver consistent results. Unlike other providers, you can create unlimited SmartPresets with Neurapix – always free of charge.
Use Adaptive SmartPresets, which utilise Lightroom’s AI masks. They are automatically applied in the image editing process.
Photo editing
In Adobe Lightroom Classic, select all the images you want to edit and click on ‘Library’ > ‘Additional module options’ > Edit images’ in the Lightroom menu. Now select the desired SmartPreset and click on ‘Edit’. You can also apply optional features and masks if required (to the video tutorial).
In the ‘Develop’ module of Lightroom, go to ‘Reset settings’ or go through the editing history step by step.
Neurapix processes up to 1,000 images per minute on its high-performance servers in Germany. If you use Neurapix locally on your own computer as part of the flat rate, the speed depends on your hardware. As the images are processed in batches when working locally, the results normally appear after just a few seconds.
The location of the image processing depends in the first step on the chosen payment model: If you pay per image, the processing takes place on the Neurapix servers in Germany. In this case, the photos are uploaded in an intelligently pre-processed form and actively downloaded again as an entire event after processing. The processing speed is up to 1,000 images per minute.
As part of the flat rate, editing takes place locally, i.e. on your own computer. The speed depends on your hardware. In contrast to server processing, the results appear in ‘waves’ of several images (‘batches’). The first results are therefore available after just a few seconds. Neurapix therefore speaks of real-time image processing. There is no need to download the results.
The Neurapix AI has trained with many millions of images in order to select the best possible image section. It has analysed how real photographers have cropped their photos in direct comparison to the original motif. When cropping, Neurapix takes into account numerous common techniques such as the ‘golden ratio’ or ‘rule of thirds’. In addition, it has found aesthetically pleasing crops that do not follow any fixed rules and can apply them.
Anyone who uses their own cropped images when creating or refining a SmartPreset will automatically receive an individually trained AI crop: as soon as 500 of your own crops per image orientation (landscape/portrait format) are included in the personal data set, the upgrade will be activated. Users will then automatically receive an email.
Using a B/W SmartPreset works in exactly the same way as with a colour SmartPreset: After clicking on ‘Edit images’ in the Lightroom menu, the B/W style is simply selected and used as an independent SmartPreset as usual. If you have first edited a shoot in colour, you can then simply edit it again with a B/W SmartPreset (using virtual copies if necessary).
Neurapix integrates Adobe’s AI masking into the existing workflow. This can be accessed in Lightroom Classic in the ‘Develop’ module under ‘Presets’> ‘Adaptive’. Here, photographers also have the option of creating and saving their own masks (Adaptive Presets). From now on, they are automatically available for Neurapix and can be easily selected during image processing.
Privacy policy
Neurapix operates all its servers in Germany and can therefore guarantee the best possible data protection. Your sensitive customer data is safe with us. With local editing as part of the Neurapix flat rate, your images even remain entirely on your computer.
If you use server editing, your edits will remain on our secure servers in Germany for seven days so that you can download them again. Images that you upload to create or refine your SmartPresets will remain on our servers until you delete them because they are regularly used to refine your SmartPresets.
Each SmartPreset is an independent AI network. Your training images are only used in your own SmartPresets. No one else can access them.
