Neurapix Culling (Beta): New Free Tool for Image Selection Now Available for Photographers
Goettingen, April 16, 2025 | The German company Neurapix has expanded its AI image-editing plugin for Adobe Lightroom Classic with a new feature for image selection. With “Neurapix Culling”, photographers can further accelerate their workflow and save even more time. The new tool is initially available as a free beta version for all photographers.
In addition to its popular AI-assisted photo editing, Neurapix now also offers a solution for image selection directly within Adobe Lightroom. Neurapix Culling (Beta) is integrated into the regular Neurapix plugin and can be accessed via the usual menu path. When the tool is launched, the selected Lightroom catalog is displayed in a grid view that can be customized to individual preferences. All images are preloaded instantly, enabling a highly efficient selection process.
Photographers can now mark all selected photos using Lightroom’s familiar options: Flag, Rating (stars), and Color Label. All markings are synchronized in real-time with the Lightroom catalog. Once the selection process is complete, the window can simply be closed.
Focus on Efficient Operation, More AI Features to Follow
The development of the beta version of Neurapix Culling focused on establishing the foundation for an efficient and seamless editing workflow with deep integration into Lightroom Classic, helping photographers save even more time. Nevertheless, the beta version already includes several optional AI features:
- Grouped view: Burst shots can be grouped together to easily identify the best image in a series. A smart zoom function allows for quick comparison of key details.
- Eyes open: Neurapix’s AI detects which people have their eyes open and which do not, particularly useful for group photos.
- Looking at the camera: Neurapix can also determine which individuals are looking directly at the camera, which can be a selection criterion.
- Smiling: The tool can indicate whether people in the image are smiling or not.
These AI features are already available as supportive tools. Neurapix Culling will gradually be expanded with additional AI features that are currently in development. Fully automated image sorting is not included at this stage.
“We Already Have Many Great Ideas in Development”
“Leaving image selection to AI requires a fundamental trust in that technology – which many photographers currently (still) do not have,” says Nils Sauder, co-founder and CEO of Neurapix, referring to numerous interviews held during the development phase. “Our focus for the beta version was therefore on providing a seamless and efficient selection experience with initial AI-assisted features. However, we already have many great ideas in development that we will gradually integrate over the coming months.”
Neurapix is initially offering its selection tool for free during the beta phase. After updating the Neurapix plugin, the Neurapix Culling option appears as a separate menu entry (Library > Plug-in – Extras). A notification about the update appears automatically when Lightroom is opened, but the update can also be performed manually via the Plug-in Manager. Neurapix Culling can be used independently of Neurapix’s AI image editing.
With regard to data protection, Neurapix continues to prioritize security: Neurapix Culling runs entirely locally on the user’s computer. No sensitive images or data need to be uploaded or downloaded.
